The bullpen also gets little love, with only Mason Miller getting any respect with a 2.44 ERA and fWAR of 2.3. The Padres' playoff odds are also low, with the Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians, Athletics, and Cincinnati Reds all listed as having better odds of making the playoffs than the Padres. The team's lack of national respect is further highlighted by the fact that the Dodgers are listed at 94% to win the division and 99% to make the playoffs, while the Padres come in at 1.2% to win the division and 22.1% to make the playoffs. However, there is still hope for the Padres to surprise some people. While A.J. Preller's decision not to trade away Tatis Jr. for a power bat and top-tier starter may have limited the team's immediate improvement, the addition of players like Castellanos and Andujar as 1B/DH options and Ty France as a defensive option may still deliver some power. The burden is now on the current roster to step up their game, and the heart and character of the players may play a significant role in helping the Padres outperform these projections. With just a little luck, the Padres can still surprise some people and prove the projections wrong.
